I enjoy re-creating those special elements of a subject matter that first inspired me to paint it. The hope is that others, in turn, will find that special something in the painting to also connect with and enjoy. Watercolor is the first medium that I was drawn to because of its softness and transparency. Working with oil, I also attempt to achieve a similar softness.
My background as a clinical psychologist influences my work as well. Modern advances seem to take us further and further away from simplicity, intimacy, and all that is natural. I see art as an opportunity to bring us back to each other and nature. Just like therapy, painting to me is an equally creative process that engages others and provides valuable opportunities for quiet reflection and rich emotional experiences, often the antidote to the chaos of life.
